About the Book

Pakistan has worked hard to establish itself as a stable and functioning state since it was carved out of British India in 1947. Internal challenges include ethnic, tribal and religious divisions, widespread poverty and corrruption. Meanwhile it is surrounded by powerful neighbors - India, Iran and China, with Afghanistan - and has a tumultuous relationship with the ever-present United States. The author outlines the history and implications of the political and economic shifts that drive the ship of state, as reform efforts, terrorist attacks and changing international alliances all rock the boat.
